i have a problem with my computer

my specs and stuff:

ams gbox
p4 with 2.4 gHz
1 Gb ram
intel something 64 mb video card
60 gb hard drive
not sure what the NIC is...

these items were already installed. so there isnt anything on the PCI slots.

this deals a little with the game counter strike.

when i load the game, the background is red but the loading window is still showing.
when i play the game, some parts of the map are red. it is like i can still see some of the background.
when i do "Alt+tab" to go to my desktop, everything is fine. but when i do it again to go back to my game, everything is frozen.
could this be my video card?

i lag alot in the game also. my ping would be 30 then suddenly 300. it doesnt seem like im lagging but i can view it through the game.
right now, i am on my other computer which never lags.
could this be my NIC?

Well, it sounds like you have Intel integrated video. That's bad for any action games. Real bad.

My suggestions would be to visit Intel's web site and download the latest version of the drivers. Since you have a P4, it's probably either the 82845 chipset or the 82865 chipset. It should be pretty clear if you look in Device Manager under system and see if you have a dozen 82845 or 82865 devices. After you download, install, and reboot, upgrade to DirectX 9. And if it still doesn't work, pray that your system has an AGP slot and go buy a new video card.

yes it does have an AGP slot.

luckily this box is see thru. on the AGP slot, it says not to put something greater than AGP 3.3? i think? or agp 8x? cant remember

is the card worth getting? and what card?

i bought a geforce card and when i try to install, it says it does not pass the win logo testing everytime. this is for the old comp, which im using now.

specs for old dell computer:
p3 500mHz (LOL!)
640 mb ram
geforce4 ti 4400 128mb AGP

if you need anymore info, just message me

thanks alot!

The 3.3 is referring to the voltage. Older "AGP 2X" cards aren't compatible with newer motherboards. If you saw AGP 8X referenced then you're good to go with the newer cards. That video card is the same model I have. For a driver to pass Windows logo quality testing standards, or whatever they call it, it's a big hassle for the hardware manufacturer to do that and the WHQL certified driver is out of date. nVidia based cards are very good, though, and you should be able to install the card and head out to www.nvidia.com to download the latest drivers for it. Windows will probably bark at you, but just let the driver install and you should be sailing smooth.

Let me know if you have any problems getting that to work..

Your 4400 should provide decent graphics. I'm not sure how it'll react w/ top of the line games like Doom 3, but mine's been sufficient for Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield Vietnam.
