Direct TV Receivers and Access Card Questions?
OK - just moved and ended up going with Digital Cable at the new house and no longer have Direct TV (it was a cable modem vs DSL reason that prompted the switch). Anyway - now I have 2 Direct TV receivers with Access cards that I'm going to sell on Ebay - when I called Direct TV about "giving one of these to my friend" they were adamant about keeping the Access card and making the new guy buy one. Is there any vital info on this access card that directly relates to me? I imagine that it would be worth more on Ebay with the Access cards than without. Anyone give me a heads up on what to do??
Thanks FF |
The Access cards are Slaved to YOUR account number, when the new guy tries to get the recievers to work the Directv reps will tell them that they need new cards. This is a way for them to keep track of the recievers and the cards. I say keep the cards and tell the buyer that they have to call Directv up to get new cards.

not to mention that some "unscrupulous" people will just reprogram the cards and then resell the rest of it with the hardware :) making even more of a profit than you would.

I remember back in the day when you could get a card on the internet with every channel unlocked and no bill. Man were those the days...

Wasn't OJ Simpson involved in that scam? I vaguely recall some bust couple of years ago in Florida.
