Sapphire Radeon 9800 woes
Until recently I had an Nvidia GeForce ti4600. It was a great card, but definately starting to show its age, so I ordered a Sapphire Radeon 9800 pro from Newegg for $200. Oh goody, right? Well, I uninstalled my Nvidia drivers, and installed the ATI card just fine, everything seemed to be working. When I went to install the catalyst drivers, however, after a restart, my system always locks up on me. It almost always happens just before or just after the Windows XP login screen. However, it doesn't happen in safe mode, nor does it happen if I uninstall the drivers and start up as if I had just installed the card.
Has anyone ever heard of this happening? It seems to me like a driver issue, but I don't have a clue how to fix it. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated, of course. Edit: Nevermind, I guess it was my power supply. I have a 350W, but thought I'd give plugging it up to another power supply by itself a try and believe it or not, it worked.

How many watts is your PSU? I tried a Windows reinstall but for some reason I kept having the problem during the install as well.

OTOH, at work, we have both a 9800 pro and an X800 pro running fine with a 300 Watt Aopen PSU. |
