cannot set video card to 8x AGP?
ok so I have a problem, I recently reinstalled windows on my computer(in preperation for DOOM3) and installed the latest drivers for my Radeon 9800 128 meg card, and now in that Smartguard or whatever it is, it's showing that my AGP settings are set to off. I tried setting it to 8x then 4x and it just keeps resetting it. I am positive my motherboard supports 8x AGP, does anyone have any ideas because this is pissing me off.

This used to happen to me probably about 6 months ago. Even though I would set my AGP to 8x everytme I started up Windows, when I rebooted it would always be on some crappy number like 2x or 4x and fastwrite would always be disabled.
How did I fix this? I updated to the latest ATI drivers (which is usually at least monthly nowadays) and eventually the problem went away with one of the new driver sets.

Don't worry. I think that the AGP number is meaningless. Seriously. I've put this card in another machine with similar specs, and the damn thing read 8x, and not one bit of difference in benchmark scores or gaming.

Well crap, I just checked in Sandra Sisoft tests and the video card is definitely not showing up at 8x AGP. It gives a warning that AGP bus is unused or AGP card not fully AGP compatible. And in the AGP adapter settings it shows the motherboard can go to 8x, but where it says the durrent AGP speed setting, it shows just a blank there. anybody have any ideas?
