What is this damned bar at the top of IE?
I'd take a screenshot for you but I can't upload pictures in this forum. I've had this bar pop up at the bottom of my internet explorers top menu bar that's got all these links that correspond to the webpage I'm on. If I'm on a car page, they have links to car sites, porn has porn links. I can right click it and uncheck something called Hotbar to make it go away, but it comes back with every new window. Also, theres ones called Superbar and Xupiter, however they only come up if I check them.
Any ideas how to get rid of this fucking privacy-disrespecting software that loaded itself among my Internet Explorer? Thanks guys -Tim Also-every time I run a search, whether it be in Google or Yahoo or whatever, a whole new window pops up of the same search but through some *new* softwares search engine, along side the initial google search. Any ideas?

I would try Ad-Aware or Spybot Search and Destroy. I, personally, love Spybot. That may help.

No need for the pop up stopper - the pop up is caused by Xupiter and the like - once those are removed it should stop happening.
Suffice it to say you've got a fair share of spyware on your comp to get rid of. In case you haven't considered it, you may want to look into trying an alternative browser such as Mozilla or Firebird, or Opera. Most spyware takes advantage of flaws in IE and doesn't work with other browsers. Either way, you'll want to run Ad-Aware on a regular basis.

Boomspeed is a free Hosting Service
http://www.boomspeed.com/host/ They don't allow hot-linking, but you can post the link to the screenshot. Go to Tools / Internet Options / Click on the advanced tab. Make sure that ... Enable Install On Demand (Internet Explorer) Is unchecked. That will stop some of the spyware from installing without your knowledge Last edited by Nomad; 05-12-2003 at 10:41 PM.. |

Great, thanks a lot guys. I'm usually pretty computer literate but I'm too pissed at this thing right now to search for the little buggers.
So I'll go ahead and check out those programs for future prevention, but what about deleting the stuff that already made it aboard the ship? Will I be able to find it in a folder or setting or do I need software to actually locate and remove it? Thx again

Quick question-
I'm just now running ad-aware and so far it's identified 270 objects....however I saw it counting cookies as it went through my internet folder. This got me thinking that maybe the settings are pretty strict right now. Should I just use the stock settings and let it "delete all" or should I go through one by one or what? Any recomended settings or tips to use this amazing software? -tim

What the penguin said, Xupiter. The scurge of the internet. I won't dwell on this as it is well known. Use the utilities mentioned above.
Xupiter sucks! But, if you play into it, you are a fool! Welcome to the TFP, we can show you how to rid yourself of this <a href"http://allentech.net/parasite/Xupiter.html">scum</a>. We hate spam, punks, scabs. There are <a href="http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=xupitor&btnG=Google+Search">many</a> places to figure out how to keep that crap of your machine. Have a nice day. |

Ok just ran ad-aware twice. First deleted 230 items but it froze at the end of the deletion process. Ran it again and got everything clean, followed by a followup-scan to make sure nothing was missed. Peace out Hotbar! sukka
So now I just need to rid of some popups here and there. Thanks all, I appreciate the help. Also, do ad-aware and spybot go hand in hand together, or will they both basically do the same thing? (id rather keep from installing another program if possible)

<i>What is this damned bar at the top of IE?</i >
That is the bar in which we will never have a cool one. But, Bill will never walk out alive from the bar in which we gather. Take your cursor, put it on the area before the msoft flag (gray), right click it, choose your options, make your choices. Make sure your choices are not some fag pink. Not that is anything wrong with that. |

Run both, Spybot will routinely find things that adaware leaves behind. Also, you might want to make some changes to IE, like disabling "Install on demand (other)" in the advanced properties....... |

Yeah I went ahead and disabled Install on Demand. Also, I'm yet to run spybot, however whenever sometimes when I open up a fresh IE window, no matter what the homepage is, I'll sometimes get up to two random popups. Looks like adaware is already missing some buggers.
