did i kill the motherboard?

athlon xp 2700+

gigabyte g7n400-l m/b

2 sticks of crucial ddr 400

ok, so i had found out that my memory was bad, mostly due to the ever-increasing PFN_LIST_CORRUPT bsod's that I was getting. i decided to try to figure out if it was only one or both sticks of ram using memtest86.

so i take one stick out, and the bios freaks and tries to load the backup bios.

i replace the stick and now the motherboard hangs before BIOS - I get nothing, not even video bios.

i removed everything but memory and video card, same problem. ditto with clearing CMOS.

did i just kill my motherboard, or is there something else i can try?

thanks in advance.

Have you tried alternating the stick being taken out instead of taking out the same one?

Maybe the motherboard requires pairs of memory sticks?

yes, i tried swapping the sticks, to no avail. in addition, since the memory was bad anyway, i replaced the memory sticks and i'm getting the same result with the new (supposedly good) memory.

Remove the memory, HD's, Video card, drives and then try to power on your machine. If you get a single beep (POST-ing), your mobo is fine and it is just the ram that is hosed. If you don't get a beep, I would say your mobo is hosed and RMA both the ram and the mobo. Regardless you are going to have to RMA the ram; I hope you bought from a dealer with a good RMA policy (newegg would be best here).

the ram is fresh, and from newegg.

so is the m/b. it is now boxed, and ready to be put in the hands of usps.

we'll see what happens, thanks for the suggestions all.
