Im thinking of getting rid of Windows and using Linux
Good idea?
I dont know much about IT, but I mean, I get by and can use a PC. My main reason is I am sick of all the viruses and spyware I've been hit with using XP and IE - I never used to get them when I used 98 even. is Linux more secure and stable than XP? And is it not too hard to use? My hard drive with all my songs and poems and stories and everything over 3 years is officially dead too, so the other option is throwing my pc out the window but I guess I'll hang on to it!

Yeah, if you don't _need_ any Windows only applications (and to be honest there is usually an free, open-source alternative), then it is fine.
If you choose the right distrobution Linux is just as easy to install/use as Windows. Try Fedora Core 2 or Mandrake 10.0, they are probably the easiest to get started with. |

Linux is also much easier to royally scerw up than Windows if you don't know what you're doing. You know - "with great power comes great responsibility." That's Linux. It's powerful, and as the admin of the system with that power, you need to have a lot more knowledge about how to use it. I'd recommend dual booting for awhile before considering giving up Windows.
Anyway, I'm gonna close this thread and allow further discussion in the sticky up top. You should find a lot of information in there. http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...threadid=52391
