Ha.
So I get a phone call from my Cable company last month to review my account activity. Apparently I was using it too much that month. Even I think it was excessive... 85 Gigs! =D Hahaha... After talking with them I was thinking... really on average I download 25~30 gigs a month. 85, musta been lotsa good movies and Porno that month! Whats your average?

How do you find this info out if you don't get a letter?

bah, Im limitted to 1.5 gigs a week up here at school, which totally sucks when there's something new out you want to get but only have 200 megs that have to last you 3 days until the reset.
Luckily, they do the last check of the week around 8 o'clock saturday, and then reset at midnight, giving you about 4 hours to download all you can. When i actually remember, i can usually sqeeze out about 2 gigs an hour if i plan what i want ahead of time. |

There's been a couple months where I downloaded and uploaded a combined 200gigs in a month. I think that's when I just learned about newsgroups. Luckily I still haven't gotten a letter from Road Runner, I think the limit is 40gigs per month.
And in case anyone wants to know a way to find out how much bandwidth you use every day/week/month without getting a letter from your isp, DU Meter is a good program. |

For my ISP, they suggest 1gb upload and 5gb download. It's not strictly enforced though but going overboard will result in a email sent to you. You have to respond back and then they do a review again.
Got one of these emails a couple of months ago. I was downloading the Lois & Clark series using torrents and probably did about 12gb in 5 days. It wasn't that much as I probably averaged at a speed of about 30kb/sec with that computer on for that entire time period. Kind of stupid if you ask me as I probably wasn't interferring with anybody else's speed at any given point of that period. |

Glad to see that I am not the only one. Shaw up here in Canada has a member services where you can check your usage!
And yes... Newgroups are my weakness also :P

I use a program called NetLimiter to keep tract for me.
Currently I have used: Down: 12.7Gig Up: 1.5Gig Nothing like my old days where it would be 40-60 Gig down, and 20-30 Gig up. Ahh yes.. a majority of that was not legal... But I dont even use P2p crap anymore let alone the other things i use to do.

my 3 meg pipe is filled 16 hours a day.
hmmm thats 3000 kps or 375kps or .36 meg a second *60*60*16*30= about 64 gigs a month. and i cant disagree with that one bit.

Wish I could use something to keep track - but I have 13 machines in here ranging from a SUN box to Macs to x86 machines running flavors of windows and linux. Considering I have a dedicated download/upload machine who does so 24/7 I'd say my usage is pretty high. That machine has all my peer-2-peer stuff on it and I then have scripts running daily that move files to the appropriate machine based on file extension.

My cable company provides me with 6MB downstream and doesn't complain about it running 24/7 full force down and up.
My best month I topped 100 GB and noone batted an eyelash. ![]()

I'm nowdays averagely using about 6Mb up and 10Mb down 24/7. That would make about 1.9TB up and 3.2TB down monthly.
Of course the pipe is 100MB FD and I'm hosting quite a few high-traffic sites from there. But nevertheless, my ISP doesn't complain since I pay 150€/month for the pleasure.

Oh and to answer the question I do about 20-25 GB per month.

I've never even considered the amount of bandwidth I've used. I have cox.net for my home connection. I think I use a lot, but I've never heard anything from them. There was a span of about a month - month and a half where my wife and I downloaded all 7 seasons of stargate sg-1 so that we could watch them in order. 7 seasons, 22 eps/season @about 300MB/ep = 46.2GB. Throw in all the porn I d/l plus any music and we probably downloaded about 70GB over two months.
