last minute headphone question
Sony MDRV500DJ
or Sennheiser HD477 and why ? my music tastes are extremely varried, so take that out of consideration. the sennheisers are much more comfortable than the sonys but they look and feel CHEAP. as for sound comparrison, i have no idea. i'm not an "audiophile" by any means. thanks |
Im a radio DJ, and to me headphones are important! The headphones I use on air are the Sony MDR-V600's and the sound quality is absolutly amazing, I use them off the air as well, for mp3 listening at the house and what not, I would suggest them! Dont know much about the 500's but Sennheiser makes great phones as well, i'd go with the sony's tho.

SENNHEISER!!!!!!!!!!!

Unless you have a well-trained ear you're not gonna hear much of a difference between the two, to be honest. I'd go with whichever one fits your ears the best - for me that's the Senn's. I have ears that are a bit too big for a lotta headphones, so I've found the sony line tends to start hurting after a couple of hours in the cans.

Out of those two, I'd recommend the senns, the sonys have a reputation for being bass-heavy and muddled.
If you're not limiting yourself to those two models, spend a little extra and get the HD497s instead, as they are meant to have a better, more balanced sound than the 477s. (Although I can't comment personally as I've only listened to the 497s). Grado SR60s are also in the same price range, as are the Beyer DT231pros, both would be worth a listen if you get the opportunity. |
havent been checking price ranges in a while, but i went through the motions of picking out a set of cans about a year ago... after looking at the grados/senns/sonys, expensive wood dealies that cost in upwards of 1k without an amp, i settled on the sony mdr-v900's, studio monitors with a bit less bass intrustion (as one would find with the v700dj's), more comfortable, and infinitely more durable. only downside is their size, but f tha, if you need something smaller get a set of senn earbuds for mobile use. being studio monitors, they may not bring about the most real reproduction of sound, but the 50mm drivers, discrete bass handling, range of 5hz to 30kz, it produces a great sound for listening to everything from debussy to sasha's latest.

I have the Senn hd570, use them for the comp and they are excellent. I hate hate hate hate HATE the Sony mdrv600's. IMO they are complete shit compared to the Sennheisers. Night and day difference in the sound, the Sony's seem to lack the range of sound, and what sound they do produce seems to be treble-heavy.

I have Sennheiser HD590s and love them.
Have not tried the Sony. |
I, too, have the Sennheiser 590's and I tell you truly and without hyberbole they are worth every penny of the $200 I spent on them. They are the perfect headphone in everyway. I would definitely go with the Senns!!!!!!
