Athlon 64 Temperatures?
I just installed my new Athlon 64 3000+, and Im thinking temps are a bit high. Im running 47C idle, 55C load. Nothing too bad, but enough to make the fan kick into overdrive. This doesnt make sense to me though--I didnt think it was that hot of a chip, and its lower in the line--slower, and generally less heat. Its also sitting in a nice case with *plenty* of ventilation, so I doubt thats it.
Is this just a hot chip in general? The HSF appears to be on just fine, but Ill check it again when I get home anyways. Im baffled  |
My 64 3200+ is running currently at 42C idle. I've gotten temps up to 55C and beyond before though. For instance, when my air conditioning broke a month back, and the house temperature upstairs (where I am) was around 80F, my cpu temp jumped to 62C.
Nothing to be worried about, 55C may seem extreemly hot, but it's not going to be a detrimental effect on your preformance. Tips on getting it lower: Copper Heatsink, SLK/TT Move the case closer to an air conditioning vent. Remove clutter inside the case. (Zip ties work wonders). I'm sure there's more, but I don't want to take all the answers away. |
Those are normal temperatures for any processor. I wouldn't worry one bit.

Yeah. I was thinking you might want to consider a different HSF if it's of any concern. Like this one.

Im not worried about the temps so much as Im annoyed when the fan kicks into overdrive. Its loud. :(

Oh. Well, then. Get ya a bigass copper HSF. Like this one. This big mother hoo-ha cooler is also on sale at Directron. Then add ya some of these on there, bam, quieter, cooler pc.

What he said. That's about what I run with a stock HSF on an XP 1600. |
Same here, stock HSF on XP 2100+

At my computer shop, we've got an athlon 64 3400+ running at 55C (full load) with a big-arse Zalman 7000-Cu cooler. It's normal.
I'm happy with my Pentium 4 2.6c... only 45C at full load (33 idle). A 2.8e (newer core) runs at 55 at idle... damn bastards are hot. |
your temps are fine in my opinion.....I had mine get up to 162F degrees but that was because the frikin fan that came with it failed but now that I replaced it its about the same as yours.

Speeze Socket A fan for XP 2500+ and the highest temp I've seen is 31C. And that's when it was 90+F in the house.
|
My FX53 is running at 51c right now.
