firefox help

Ok, let me start of to say that I absolutly hate tabs....

now the problem...

my laptop has the 3 mouse buttons on it and the eraser stick mouse... the middle button you hold and use the eraser ... this scrolls it...

however the middle button ALSO opens a tab if it goes over a link.. I always end up with lots of tabs by inadverntely clicking a link with my scroll button.. is there somewhere I can change this?

Try opening about:config and poking around in there.

Out of curiosity, why do you hate tabs? Youre the first person Ive heard say that.

EVER.

I'm curious too.

Inquiring minds want to know :)

Oh, by the way.. in about:config...

filter for "middle"

The option I'm looking at now is browser.tabs.opentabfor.middleclick ... try setting that to false and seeing how you go. There are a couple of other "middle" options you could try as well.

I remember there was an extension that cancelled all tab browsing elements, but I can't seem to find it. I'll report back if I do.

Redlemon 07-28-2004 06:49 AM

Ha! Got it. The extension is...
XUL Apps > Tab Killer

I hate tabs cause they make the viewing area smaller... plus out of habbit when im done a page I close the browser... thus losing multiple pages... tabs arent my friends... thanks fro the help everyone :)

ok stupid question.. where is about:config

SecretMethod70 07-28-2004 08:33 AM

type it into the address bar. :)

So you know, you can set up Firefox 1) to not show the tab area if there is only one tab open and 2) to warn you before it closes a window with multiple tabs.

You have to use it consistantly to get it to used to it. I used to accidentally close all my tabbed windows on accident losing all the stuff I was looking at but eventually I found the confirm that. Also how touchy is that middle button? I mean geesh, I have to push hard as fuck to hit mine, and then I'm lucky if it doesn't scroll any or I just get a new tab.

You can turn off the autoscroll function. I hated it when I miss a link and end up with the autoscroll icon.
(Tools - Options - Advanced)

Nah, I love the scrolling, I was just saying that to do what he says he can is hard for me to mimic. And the fact that my linux comp prollay didn't like my workaround to get the scroll feature to work right ;)

this button is only for scrolling...
