Error message when click on external links

When I click on link in AIM or Mailwasher I get a error message that pops up saying it "cannot find an application to handle the protocol "http" of the hyperlink you selected." But the problem is, it DOES open Firefox (my default browser).

I googled that error message and found a site that told me to run RegClean. I did but I still received that error. It also said that if RegClean did not clean it, then to run this script as a .reg file:

Quote:
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\http]
"Source Filter"="{E436EBB6-524F-11CE-9F53-0020AF0BA770}"
@="URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol"
"EditFlags"=dword:00000002
"URL Protocol"=""

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\http\shell]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\http\shell\open]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\http\shell\open\command]
@="\"D:\\PROGRA~1\\intern~1\\iexplore.exe\" -nohome"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\http\shell\open\ddeexec]
@="\"%1\",,-1,0,,,,"
"NoActivateHandler"=""

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\http\shell\open\ddeexec\Application]
@="iexplore"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\http\shell\open\ddeexec\Topic]
@="WWW_OpenURL"
I do that and I no longer get that error message. But that registry entry makes IE my default browser. I tried editing that to work with Firefox to no avail. Maybe someone who knows a little more about registry entries can edit that to work with Firefox?

Thanks!

I found a reg file that fixed that problem for me here
http://johnhaller.com/jh/mozilla/firefox_bug_246078.asp

It's a reg file for windows that fixed the problem i had with clicking links on aim and getting the "cannot find application" error and then opening another window with the link anyways. hope this works for you.

Just FYI, this is supposed to be fixed in tonight's nightly build (20040727).

Ahh, is it a FireFox error?? I thought it was the way gaim was invoking FF. I was just dealing with it. Guess I still will though, as I get most my packages through the Gentoo portage system, and they don't keep nightlies (and I'm too lazy to uninstall the old ver when I update via emerge).

Thanks for (as always) being on top of it, redlemon
