Sick of buying ink cartridges, are laser printers good?
I'm really getting sick and tired of having to replace the black and white cartridge on my crappy Lexmark Z42 twice a year.... each time it costs me around $35. The main thing I use my printer for is typing papers, I can't rememebr the last time needed color. So given my situation, woudl a laser printer be a good option? Give specific recommendations if you have them. ;)

Just stop by any near-by office store, Staples, Office Max, even Best Buy, all have decent laser printers for under $100.
I have a Brother HL-5040 if I remember correctly, got it for about $120 and it has worked fine for me. I've printed off maybe 400-500 pages and don't have the need for new toner. |
Best Buy even has a new HP color laser printer for $400 if I remember right. That's just unheard of. Our dealership just got one, and it does pretty good. Granted, it's not on par with the standard $3500 unit, but it matches just about any inkjet that I've seen.

Sam's had one too, HP 1300 - around $300.00
I have this model and I love it. In the last year I used two maybe three cartridges (including the starter toner). Really fast, really clear. Liked it so much we bought a 1300 for all of our workstations (we ended up saving more by not buying ink) |
Just a quick side note...if you still need an ink printer, go to www.discountink.com and look around in there. I pay $2 for my black cartridges and $7 for color. They are reman, or whatever, but I get about 90% of the yield that I would from Genuine OE Canon cartridges for $10/blk, and $18/clr, if I remember right. Some don't have as large a savings as others, but if you shop around, and have the right printer, you can save a bunch. As a plus, they accept PayPal for payment. What sucks, is that if you live in Wisconsin, you pay sales tax.
