Recomend a harddrive (mainly for audio work)
My 40gig Deskstar finally crapped out on me. Luckily I had everything backed up. (well the important stuff at least).
I don't really have too much time to read in-depth reviews of specific drives. Can anyone recomend a 75gig+ drive that will mainly be used for computer-based music production? It should be SATA and 7200rpm of course. Also, I just read a quick review of some drives at tomshardware. I found this quote: "Both Maxtor and Western Digital boast faster minimum transfer rates, for example, which represent the really critical figure for professional audio and video applications: this is namely the data rate that must be achieved for a digital video or multi-track hard disk recording if the entire hard drive is to be used (including the slower, inner clusters). Maxtor and WD share the lead here, as neither the DiamondMax Plus 9 nor the WD2500JD comes in under 31 MB/s." I just wanted to throw that quote in, as it seems to be refering to my type of people. Thanks for any info guys. -T |

A SAMSUNG 160GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive, Model SP1614C, OEM Drive Only. This is the drive I use on my computer and it has kept me quite happy. Newegg, 105 dollars http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...152-015&DEPA=1 For the high cost option we have: Two Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10,000RPM SATA Hard Drive, Model WD740GD, OEM Drive Only in a Raid 0 array. Newegg, ($183 - $20 (mail-in rebate)) X 2 for about $325 when the rebates come. |
