Add Printer?
I recently formatted my computer and I installed drivers for all of my hardware. My printer was automatically recognized and is listed under printers in the device manager. However in the printer and faxes window, there's no printer listed. I tried "Add Printer" and nothing opens up. I tried "Add Hardware" and it just says that the printer is working properly.
Is there a way to have a printer listed in the printer and faxes window without using add printer or a way to make the add new printer wizard work? |

Remove the printer from device manager and reboot your system.
When it boots up, do not let windows auto-detect the printer. After the machine has finished booting up, either install using the manufacturer's CD or go through the add printer wizard at this point. |

I removed it and rebooted. A popup appeared asking me if I want to install the printer despite not being digitally signed, I chose no, and tried the add printer wizard and it wouldn't open. I tried the add hardware wizard, installed the drivers from the hp cd, it was correctly identified but not listed in the printer and fax window. I tried that again except letting windows install the printer when I rebooted and still no good.
I downloaded drivers from hp.com and when I loaded those, it said that it could not find printui.dll. Is there supposed to be a printui.dll file in my system32 file? |

Remove the printer from the device manager.
Reboot the machine. Do not let Windows install the printer. Run setup from the HP CD. That should do it. HP printers are really picky about being installed from the CD. What kind of printer is it anyway? |

Deskjet 932C, The setup doesn't work from the cd b/c it says that the setup is not for USB connections and to check the set up poster and perform all steps in the correct order.
I had to run setup in compatibility mode b/c the cd doesn't work for 2000 or XP (and I have xp). Doubt that made too much of a difference though. EDIT: I just decided to go ahead and format again. Everything's working fine now and I have a printui.dll file now in my system32 folder. That may have had something to do with it. Last edited by bob32; 07-17-2004 at 11:48 AM.. |
