Name My Harddrive!
Okay, my new G5 will be here Monday and I've having some "writer's block" when it comes to naming the new drive.
It's coming with a 160GB internal and I have a 160GB and a 15GB external firewire drives that'll be used with it, too. My current G4 has 4 drives: 60GB "Big", 120GB "Bigger", 160GB "Biggest", & 15GB "Lil' Bit". They used to be named, "Sol", "Terra", "Luna", "Mars" (with corresponding icons) just to give you an idea on how my mind works. This is my computer at work, so it can't be "Porn" and "More Porn" if that's what you're thinking. Gracias! |

I name all my drives as comic book characters, and whever possible the drive letter corresponds with the drive letter
IE C:/ = Cyclops H:/ = Hulk (that's the biggest one too)

Versus?
THGL:
Was there any particular reason you bought a desktop G5 now instead of waiting for a laptop version? Do you have a reason for a laptop version? The reason I ask is that I'm looking into making The Big Switch after x^x years of pissing around with IBM whiteboxes... I'm fed up with Microsoft and would like to go back to Apple (my elementary school way back in the day was the first in Ontario to have a Mac lab, so I grew up with them).

My understanding as a mac user is that a G5 notebook is not exactly on the horizon. Something about they were having difficulties making the chip and support apparatus small enough with all of the cooling requirements. Hell, they didn't even make it to the predicted 3.0 ghz desktops... Not to mention the dual processor option of the desktop=sweetness.

Trache, I'm a graphic designer and this is (will be) my work computer. A laptop wouldn't be a good choice for me because of the upgradeability (is that even a word?) of the desktop model. My current G4 has gone through multiple upgrades (add'l HDD, vid card, chip replacement [450Mhz to 1Ghz]) that I don't think would be as easy to do, or even possible, with a laptop.
I've also gotten spoiled with my 22" Cinema Display so even the 17" Powerbook seems rather small to me. For a home computer, I would consider getting a Powerbook if they weren't as expensive as they are.

The Irishman, too, picked the fly out of his drink but then held it out over the beer and yelled "SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT, YOU BASTARD!" |

I made my decision.
I was surfing around xicons.com and came across this set: So the internal drive is Day and the external is Night. (I'll probably leave the 10GB firewire with the G4). It may not seem like the most inspired names, but I figure my internal is used while I'm here (in the day) and my backup software will use the external (at night).
