A way to see who's been reading my away messages in AIM?
Like the title reads, I would like to know if there is a way to find out who has been reading my away message in AOL Instant Messenger. I currently use Aimutation (Version 1.2) but I am not aware of any plugins which allow me to do this. So exactly what programs/plugins can I use that will have this option?

It is possible, to some degree. When someone gets info on you to see your away message, they query your computer for the away message (it's not like you store the away message on AOL's server).
However, if you're sniffing the network traffic and notice your away message going out, you'll be hard pressed to figure out who owns that IP address. The better answer: you can tell if/when someone gets your away message, but not necessarily who. Disclaimer: the above research was done using Trillian, not AOL's AIM client.

^^^That's what I figured, Pragma and thanks for the info. I did happen to come across a post on another message board which led me to:
http://www.miranda-im.org/ Apparently Miranda is a client similiar to Trillian. It has a plugin that you can download which enables you to see who's reading your away messages. Well long-story-short, I downloaded, installed and could not get it to work. I was kinda in a rush though but maybe when I have time I'll sit down and try to figure it out. Just thought I would pass the info on incase anyone was intrested. |
