If you've used Firefox you know how small the edit boxes are compared to IE. Get that roomy feeling back with these javascript bookmarklets.

I found the 5rows bookmarklet at www.squarefree.com ;however I really wanted it to be wider not taller so I played around with the jscript and some page source for the forum and modified the code to do this. If anyone knows how to combine the two into one bookmarklet by all means post it. I don't know jack about jscript-I just ganked code and figured it out.


I didn't post them directly here as TFP adds the forum URL every time I try to post jscript hrefs for some reason (prolly for protection reasons), so I made this little webpage for it so it would be easy to bookmark.

edit: for those unfamiliar with bookmarlets you just right click the links and click Bookmark This Link and put it where you want...I use the Links Toolbar for easy access. IE Users select "Add to Favorites" and dismiss the "unsafe" popup and I recommend again using the Links bar. Yes, it works in IE as well if you want more room in that browserl.

You still didn't happen to explain how to intergrate the bookmark with the threads at TFP? [Oh. Just re-read that you didn't know how]

Are you saying to use this as a notepad type thing and copy and paste when we're finished?

No this makes the text boxes in the actual forum larger by columns or rows. You don't have to paste it or anything. You just have to right click those links on the page and add them as favorites or bookmarks depending on what browser you're using. If you add them to your LInks Toolbar they're easily accessible. It's just the same as saving a webpage to your favorites, except you are bookmarking a little bit of code that changes the textarea of the forum pages.


If it doesn't work for you, hey it may be good for someone else. I personally can't live without it anymore. My edit box I'm in is about 3x bigger now and I can go over my words much easier. I use it at 3 different forums now and I love it, and I figured if I liked it another FF user would as well.

Oh, and it works in any Mozilla browser from the looks of it. I used it in Moz 1.5

OHHHHH! Sorry, sorry, sorry. I just couldn't follow your instructions as you outlined them the first time. I thought you meant to bookmark the original link and not the ones found inside it. [To just use the text box on that page every time] That's why I took you for crazy.

Yeah, looks pretty good to me. You just have to click on it [the bookmark] every time you want to use it. Which is one too many for me. But it's still very useful.

BTW, I am a very avid user of the Links folder so have no worries there.

Is there anyway for it to increase the default size of text boxes or do I have to click on the "link" every time?

only a forum admin can change the default size in vB and I dunno if that's possible in vB2, as I've never admined a vB2 forum. if clicking it a million times to get your fave size annoys you then just count up how many clicks you do and change each book marklet to the # of clicks X 5. then you can click each one once and get your sizes.

I noticed some "browser sniffing" code when I was trying to research another problem I was having on this board. Perhaps the text box size could have a different default for Mozilla browsers.

Or perhaps the fabled switchover to vBulletin 3.0 will make everything better...
