BitTorrent and eDonkey?

I read where Kazaa is losing users to services like BitTorrent and eDonkey. Anyone know anything about them? Do they also put spyware on your PC?

there are a few bittorrent clients... azereus is a popular one on some torrent sites I use, also bitcomet which is the client I use and like, and the official bittorrent by the guy who wrote the original code.

none of them install spyware.

edonkey.....I never used it. hope that helps get you started. :)

Edonkey is alright, and I say alright with the grimmest of meanings. I mean, don't expect edonkey to get er done in a quick snap, there are too many damn dial-up users dragging down the speed. That and there are WAY too many people trying to download from there at once. Bittorrent is pretty quick, especially if you have a lot of other seeds/peers to work with on a file.

At least for me, Edonkey sucked because of the dialup users. Most files were in the 3-4 kb/s range, and some were less.

BitTorrent, on the other hand, is usually pretty quick. The only thing is that you have to have a link to the file on the tracker (i.e. you can't search for something).

Okay, Edonkey and BitTorrent have two VERY different uses.

Edonkey takes a few days for a 700Mb file, but it has a very good chance of finishing the download. Edonkey is also home to some obscure stuff that you won't find on BitTorrent.

BitTorrent is a very fast way of getting files that have been seeded recently. The speeds are very good; however, file retention is low and the odds of completing are a lot more iffy depending on the number of seeds.

I Started using Bittorrent but changed to Azureus because Bit torrent was so fast both in DL and UL that it crashed my modem after just a few minutes and there is no way to adjust the download speed or at least I dont know how too, where Azureus gives you the option to adjust the up and down speeds and that solved my problem with crashing modem.
good luck
