NewsGroups
I like to use the NewsGroups to DL various things. The newsgroup server through my ISP has little to no retention and i am looking for a place to get my groups. A friend of mine mentioned giganews.com but i was wondering if anyone else here has used something that may be better.
I expect to pay, i dont mind paying more for better service and privacy. Thanks |
Try these guys
http://www.easynews.com/ remember looking around one day and stumbling upon them. Check it out! |
My friend swears by giganews and downloads more than me....the Verizon servers I use are so good that I don't need a 3rd party provider myself but you should be good to go with giganews I think.
I hear the rates are $16/month for 12GB worth of bandwidth so that doesn't sound to bad either... Finally try your luck with Newzbot at http://www.newzbot.com which is a list of public NNTP servers, it's probably not quite what you're looking for but it could come in handy for fills or old files, obscure groups, etc....I used to use it all the time |
12 Gigs worth of downloads? I wouldn't seriously go over that limit... (I download some 30 gigs a month. dunno what, actually)
|
Look into a good program for browsing the groups. Outlook express sucks. Newsbin pro is very good.

I asked the very same question about a year ago and someone recommended Newshosting 50 gig a month for $30. I gave them a try and haven't looked back since. Great retention and good speeds, especially if you use the Webnews site
|
I use newshosting.com and get 10GB for $10 a month. Fast, great retention... Im pretty happy.
|
I use a service from forteinc.com and use a client called grabit which is working quite well for me.

I will second on easy news. They make it convienent that you can put multiple binaries into a single zip file. Use a download manager (getright or something like it) and download 1 huge file.
$10 a month for 10 gigs isn't a bad deal. Plus they have a deal for using a grid.org client that uses your idle cpu cycles to work data loads and for every 15 days cpu time, you get a gig. Multiply that by a few comps, and you got alot of gigs free. |
