mass renaming with a twist
I've seen these questions here before, but not exactly like this...
I copied a ton of .gif files from temporary internet files to a folder. Now the files all have [1] before the end of the filename. for example bicycle[1].gif Is there a way to do a mass removal of the [1] from the 350 files I copied? Thanks in advance for any help!

Can't think of a way to do this since the files are variable length names.
You could create different directories for file names wit different lenghts. for example the file you mentioned above would go in a directory for files of length 10. After you get all the files seperated you could do this: ren *.* ???????.* that should do the trick, but the tedious part is moveing them to the correct directories. |

oooof. yeah the lengths are all over the place. it's a good suggestion, and that would be cool if there were only a few different file lengths, but with these files it looks like I just might have to turn off known extensions, F2 del del del Enter a bunch of times hehe. thanks hrdwareguy

Just do a 'replace' and replace [1] with nothing.

w3wt! I was looking for a program to replace the nagwarez I have right now. I hate Flash Renamer, everytime you open it, it goes into a counting loop, and counts EVERY file you've renamed. When you have 15000 mp3s that gets to be a fuckin' headache everytime you wanna rename 100.
