Bass with no space.....
Alright boys, just bought a 2004 Tahoe Z71. Just had twin girls 3 months ago. Now, I love the truck and the Bose sounds nice for a factory setup but, it is seriously lacking ANY low end. I would like a solution to add a little bottom to this thing without installing any kind of sub box. I have 3rd row seating and two car seats so room is of the most importance.
Any ideas?

JL makes the best vehicle specific enclosures in my opinion. Here is their model for your Tahoe.
Da specs: Fits 2003-Up Tahoe: LS, LT & Z71 This compact unit installs inside of the factory center-console for a completely stock appearance and delivers intense bass output and quality from a downfiring 10-inch subwoofer. Full console functionality and storage space is retained. The Hard Data: Contains one 10W3v2-D2 subwoofer in a sealed enclosure. 300 watt power handling. Wired for 4 ohm mono. Installs inside factory center console and fires down into the floor of the cabin. Console storage capacity is not affected. Rear cargo space is not affected. Permanent modification of the inner console and removal of the OEM “subwoofer” (if so equipped) is required. Does not fit Chevrolet Silverado, Chevrolet SSR, GMC Sierra, GMC Sierra Denali, GMC Yukon Denali, GMC Yukon XL Denali, Cadillac Escalade, Cadillac Escalade ESV, Cadillac Escalade EXT, Hummer H2, Hummer H2 SUT. Model Name: SB-GM-BURBCNSL/10W3v2/BK SKU: 94033 Color: n/a (installs inside factory console) Model years: 2003-Up Match Grade: n/a (installs inside factory console)

yo Brandon,
you think 650 installed is a bad price for the stealth box and amp? JL 10W3's JL e1200 mono amp I think I need to slam a W7 in there, whatcha think?

650 installed is a good price. 10W3's are around $179, the amp is probably around $200 or so. The box is a bit pricey, and the install will be pricey too, as they have to tear out the factory console, stuff the new one in there, mount the amp, and run all the necessary wires. I think its a great price. But why settle for 1 10W3? I think you should tear out the back 2 rows of seats and build an awesome looking fiberglass enclosure for 6 12W7's.
Seriously though, I have seen guys put a downward firing 10W7 in a factory console running off a 500/1 with amazing results. I say go for it!

Well, back when I was in school I had around 8K in a car worth about half that. So, i been there done that.. I am wanting a complete stock look (no boxes) so that is why I opted for the stealth box as you mentioned. I now have twin baby girls as well so I need all the room I can get.....
I think I got the speaker decision made, just fighting between the e/1200 or the 250/1. I am not looking for deep bang yo truck bass, just some warmth to compliment the Bose system. I do appericate the JL insight however, I was a Fosgate Pro kid back in the day. Are they still pretty strong in the game?

Fosgate sucks now. Publicly traded company... blah blah blah... products are not near what they used to be.
If you are fighting between the E series amp the the 250/1, I'd definitely go for the 250. Its a much stronger amp. The most obvious difference is that it puts out another 50 watts, but that is really immaterial. I could go into bitter detail on why the 250 is for all the world the better amp, and I would be more than happy to if you ask, but just rest assured that the 250 is the ticket.

Yeah, after doing some more research and reading reviews I am finding out that the 250/1 is a much better way to go. I just hope with this sub being under the console I don't end up with a bunch of localize sound right in that area

Worry not my boy, the sounds most people refer to as bass are omni-directional below 100 Hz. It should sound as if it is coming from everywhere and not localized to a specific location.

Ive done several of the JL Stealthboxes in the GM Full Size trucks and SUV's. Simply put - theres no better bass for the buck. The center console sounds great - it wont rattle the windows on the car next to you - but for great low end re-enforcement its money well spent. And you really wont even know its there - except for a minimal loss of center console storage.
On a side note - the 250/1 is the perfect match for most of the Stealthboxes - theres even a spot on the SBox special order form for them. Nelson |
