External hard drive from new egg
I was looking at this http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProduc...factory=BROWSE
It seems great, but the part that newegg will not warranty seems kind of strange to me, any reasoning behind this. It seems as if they cover other hard drives, just not this particular one. |
6 or 7 views, someone has to have at least an opinion. TFP hasn't failed me in the past, I'd love to buy this thing today.

While Newegg doesn't warrenty things, they have, in my opinion the best RMA procedure of any online retailer. Basically, within a certain amount of days, you can return the item for a replacement or refund for any reason whatsoever.
With warrenties, however, Newegg usually likes to let the manufacturer cover it. |
I was once given an external harddrive.
It worked great untill I dried to defrag it one time... it grinded all night long and in the morning it didn't work at all. (It made a rattling noise, I think something inside broke because of the constant disk activity for such a long time) Overall, it was disappointing, but keep in mind, this was a long time ago. I mean the thing hooked up to a freakin parallel port. I am sure a more modern USB one would be much faster and more reliable. |
...and of course newegg.com is one of the best sites on the web for buying peripherals. They are very reputable. I've bought many things from them and tons of people swear by 'em so they aren't out to rip you off or something.

newegg rocks.
Just like glytch says, as long as you are within the specified time period, you can return stuff, no questions asked. newegg rocks. |
If you so desire, you could roll your own, for a lot less than that. Buy a 250 gig drive and an enclosure ($40), and you are good to go, for a lot less than they want. I have a 160GB external drive I built this way that has been going strong for about a year now.

If you decide to go with sailor's suggestion to make your own external drive using an enclosure, I'd recommend getting an enclosure from http://www.dealsonic.com/ because they have a much better selection and better prices then newegg for this part.
