HP Order Fulfillment problems?
Hey all, this is just a general note/question:
I ordered an HP (Compaq) Proliant about 2 months ago. HP gave me a bunch of run around about how they were having problems, backorders, etc...none of which I was buying. I did get one note from them about a transition to some new system, and that their manufacturing plant wouldn't be able to ship anything until the 16th of June. Anyone else having these kinds of delays getting equipment from HP?

Johnny.. I deal with HP on the Unix side and I can confirm they are switching over to new systems (software or hardware I am not sure). They are still slugging away at the merger too (the merger everyone thought had been completed).
Couple that with the fact they are outsourcing jobs to India and it makes for a VERY bad situation. My customers and I are having issues from Maintenance, order fulfillment, lost records etc... Build your own bro, you will have FAR less headaches than dealing with HP. My last system was an HP (7995 I think) and I built 2 more for myself since then. I have had fewer issues with my homebuilt systems than I had with HP. If you have the means and the time, build your own. There are plenty of VERY knowledgeable people on this forum that can help.

theburner : Not a problem building my own, I just happen to really like the Proliant line of servers, and the folks I'm doing this server work for have been burned (no pun intended) by some shops on their servers, so I wanted to get them a really solidly designed server for once. I wouldn't get a desktop or laptop, but damn, I do like the Proliant line. Or at least I did.
Anyway, to make the joke complete, they shipped the tape drive to the server. Not the server, just the tape drive for it. And their trying to invoice the whole server now. So I've got what may be the worlds most expensive tape drive. Also, I talked to a friend of mine who's a reseller, and he said he had thousands of dollars worth of build to order systems waiting for HP. Looks like the merger may not be quite complete, after all.
