i screwed up and need help
Running Windows 2000
Internet Explorer 5.00 Please Help! On Friday I was searching the web and clicked on a site. When I did this I had about 10 windows pop up at the same time and for each one that I closed 3 would pop up in its place. Finally an error occurred and shut itself down. When I restarted my computer there were 2 icons that were on my desktop. I deleted them but don’t recall what they said. I know one was titled “g1” but I can’t remember the other. Now I am having all kinds of problems. Icons keep appearing on my task bar. One labeled “C:\WINDOWS\dl.html-Microsoft Internet Explorer” and the other is labeled “Connector object-Microsoft Internet Explorer.” I can’t open either one of these and when I right click on it there is no window to open. There is no properties option so I can’t tell what it is. I can close the “Windows” one by right clicking but I have to “ctrl-alt-del” to close the “connector object.” Every time I close them they keep reopening every 5 minutes or so. My computer is also running at 100%. When I open I.E. back up I either get 2 pages. When the programs aren’t open I get an “about blank” page but when they are open I get a “cool search engine” page. When I close that window another opens and it is a porn page. I am also getting pop ups now and I tried to download “spybot” but the connector program keeps opening and it causes the download to stall. This is my work computer and I really don’t want to tell my boss about it. If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Just had a PC at work do this today. It kept bringing up the virus shield saying explorer.exe was infected. - NOT GOOD!!!
I tried to clean but was unsuccessful. I ended up re-imaging. I know you don't want to tell your boss about it, but it looks like you're infected and you might be infecting others on the network. Note: I ran ad-aware, but was not able to fix it with that either.

i've found that cwshredder can pick up on things that both adaware and spybot either miss or don't completely remove. it's also not a bad idea to look through your startup to see if there is anything funny going on there (you can always try google searching the exe names to find out if they are legit, but here is a good site to start with http://www.answersthatwork.com/Taskl...s/tasklist.htm ). |
