Panther rocks
Well, I just jumped in and upgraded to Panther from OS9.2.2, and I'm more than impressed. This system is acting exactly how I expect it to. And hell, I'm having fun using it. Been a long time since an OS has done that. It screams along on my G4/400 upped to 800. My Jaguar-touting pals have been suitably impressed, too.
Anyone else supremely happy with 10.3? |
i have it on my brand new G5 at uni.
being a windows/mandrake user at home, Panther absolutely blew my mind away. love everything about it. and the G5 for that matter as well. i heard that some German guys were configuring OSX for PC... i'm not sure on the details about that (maybe someone could confirm that)... but it sounds interesting to say the least. |
Yeah, about that, it's almost impossible to emulate on a non-mac chip. They have to emulate the RISC environment, and are getting speeds of about 0.5 - 1% of what they should.

There ya go on the emulating Macs. |
Im very satisfied with Panther. It was a huge leap from Jaguar - 10.2 which was a huge leap from Puma - 10.1. I have dual G4 800s running and love it. I never have problems and its more stable than anything I have ever used, including BeOS and linux. Wait for the 10.3.5 release, thats always a big one. I know 10.3.4 just came out, but trust me, it will kick ass. The point 5 releases always do.
