What's your favorite accessory / peripheral / gadget?

Hey Guys:

I got a new system a while ago, and during the frenzy of purchasing I had to work pretty hard to contain myself from buying all sorts of add-ons for it (for example, one site had a review of an analog tape deck that mounts into a regular drive bay for recording to tape or copying taped stuff to mp3, all I could think of was "how cool would it be to have that!!). So now I'm thinking about one or two items to get for it, but wondered what other people think is really cool about their systems. So, I thought I'd put the question out there - what one piece of hardware (or software I guess, but utility, not games etc) is your favorite "extra" for your system, and why?

It wouldn't be fair to ask this question without answering myself I suppose - although as I said, I kept myself under control, so my current favorite accessory is my Saitek Cyborg EVO, which is a pretty good joystick, but also allows a number of customizations in terms of button arrangement, palm rest hieght, and other items - I know, a little boring - that's why I'm hoping everybody can enlighten me about what they love in their systems!

Thanks Guys.

luser.

The most interesting accessory I have is a bluetooth connectivity thingamajig.

It does nothing really fancy other than communicating with my phone. I'm still trying to get my bluetooth headset to work with it so I can use it as a wireless (mono) headphone...
Useless but who cares.... :)

My favorite item(s) are the two 512Mb USB memory sticks I have. I do a lot of work on my computers at home, and go to client sites, so being able to drop files and programs on a stick, then get them from the stick at the client site, without having to upload or download or do any of that is very cool. I can also load programs I need, utilities (Adaware R us!) right on them. I usually have one pre-loaded with programs like adaware & spysweeper, norton, etc... and leep the other for regular data stuff.

For me its my iPod and more recently my gamepad. The gamepad isn't super awesome, but for playing snes roms on my computer... well let's just say it has changed the way I spend a lot of my free time these days.
This is the one I have [LINK]

Pretty cheap, but I use it more than my mouse these days :D

Well, I cant say much here, cos my only 'extra' is a smartmedia card. And I use that tops, once or twice a month.

My favorite would have to be a stainless steel watch that is a 256mb flash drive. It makes for a great conversation piece and I feel like James Bond.

well currently I really am digging the Logitech MX Duo (Wireless keyboard and mouse combo). I wouldn't have thought I would use the wireless keyboard as much as I have.

as far as purely fun stuff I have one of those PSX/N64 -> USB adapters which lets me use my controllers for game consoles on the PC since it seems like console controllers last 10x longer than PC versions.

My widescreen flat panel TV/Monitor. I think it's mega rad.

XBox modified for XBox Media Center . Rocks the socks off.

Got the xbox (with dvd remote) for 17000 yen, 80 gig HD for 8000 yen and modchip for £40. Plays any conceivable format that I use.

My 128mb USB drive and my Logitech wireless optical mouse.

Don't know what I'd do without either of them.

Dragonlich 06-01-2004 12:01 PM

That'd have to be my Logitech trackball. It's the one thing I use most often. :)

128MB USB jumpdrive

Incredibly useful

luser2002 06-22-2004 08:48 PM

hey dragonlich - what sort of trackball are you using? with the little thumb ball? or the old-school full palm size one? I'm a little out of date with trackball tech these days.

And to everybody, thanks for your input. IPOD and USB drives have been high on my list, but I'm still not sure how much I'd use them - I appreciate everybody's input.

Hmm, your question is a little broad (I consider any electronics device a gadget) but what I enjoy the most:

1) PowerBook G4
2) Bluetooth: wireless headset and interoperability b/t Sony phone and Palm T3
3) KVMP switch - not flashy but practical as hell
