Broken Monitor (Everythings Pink!)
 

Okay, so my monitars FUBARED. I tried switching video cards, and even hooked it up to different PCs, and IT TINTS EVERYTHING PINK (Even DOS startup menu/BIOS menu/everything). Anyong know how to fix this?

Aside from percussive maintenance, 'replacement' sounds like the word of the day for you.

lol, the monitor's only 17 months old, it's 21" CRT, very nice.

But I ordered a 19" flat panel with my laptop that should be arriving next week. But until then, I'm down to one computer. Oh noes!

On a old fubared 15" monitor depending how I jiggled it turned plue red green what not. This was back in 94' spent $600 and got me a new 17" monitor. In 2000 bought monitor after monitor and every lcd one seemed to have dead pixles and other problems.

Do you think you can return it somehow? Maybe there is a warranty you can use. Maybe talk to the company and get it refurbished but then if you had to pick up shipping that would be hell.

I bought it in town, I might give them a call, but I lost the receipt 'cause it was 17 months ago.

If all the fails, can you say "Office Space"?

Oh, and my current LCD screen has a couple dead pixels somewhere, but I can't see them right now for some reason.... It's nothing like my brother's where I shot a BB into it =D

Stupid question: Did you check for any new major magnetic field near your desk (big speakers, etc)? Try degaussing it? I get a pink hue at the edge when I put my monitor too close to a pair of non shielded speakers I have.

Agreed with Holo, also, an old monitor that I had turned DOS stuff (and the Windows boot screen) purplish, but Windows was just fine. That was amusing.

I didn't see a name brand but if its a better brand it should still be under warranty, It will go from the date it was made and I know on my Veiwsonics it covers 3 years...

I had a monitor cable short out and insted of spending the $25 in shipping to get it to them I just cut the cable and put on a new connector at that shorter legth, still long enough most the time but i have 4 or 5 monitor extentions in diff lengths anyways....

Could be that one of the guns in the monitor has died or is dying.

I've had this problem too. Check the pins on the male connector of the monitor. Chances are, one is either bent or missing. If that's the case, you can try replacing the connector, or get a new one.

Also, another thing could be if you can't see any problems on the outside, the pin may be disconnected INSIDE the connection. Try taking a pare of plyers, get a good grip on each pin individually, and push it into the connector just to ensure there's a good connection there.

I also agree with holo: It's probably a magnetic field too close to your monitor. Back in the day, I had an old hp with those speakers that attach right to the side of the monitor, and after about two years it started doing the pink thing as well. We sent it in about 3 times and not until the third time did they figure out it was the speakers causing the discoloration.

Remember: Speakers have BIG magnets in them. Don't put them near your monitor.

That's funny, it worked with speakers next to them before, I'll try moving them further away when I try to fix it again later.

I had this same problem, and after much testing the problem was the VGA cable. I went out and got a new cable and every thing is just great now.

FIXED! I had to take some pliers to one of the pins in the cable.
