music while scuba diving and surfing?
so check out what I just came across. I like to go scuba diving and saw this on the news last night http://www.desworldwide.com. Looks like you can listen to tunes while youre scuba diving. The news mentioned they are working on stuff for surfing and swimming too. Just thought it was too cool to not share.

I must say that is very cool. If it was only cheaper.........

wouldn't the water slow down the headphone drivers pretty quickly?

Fantastic! What a great idea! With an entry price of $299, it's still not bad if you really are into the idea. I can only imagine some exqusite music of my own choice playing while I'm under. Very cool. I'm not really sure about the connection method, though: It looks like the headphones just hang off of your mask strap. With currents and waves moving, they would flap like wings! I think a connector under your chin would help keep them anchored, and closer to your ears to keep the diver/snorkeler from fiddling with the volume every so often. Still, a great idea.

Interesting idea but I wouldn't want the distraction while I was trying to keep track of my gauges, air supply, direction, etc..

Sounds pointless to me. I would rather have the little gizmo I saw in a dive shop once to enable a diver to drink a can of soda underwater.
Listening to music while diving reminds me of some really bad dive videos of mine with cheezy music. Bah. I would rather shell out the money on an integrated mask/reg system with a builtin radio for communication with my partner. |
I enjoy diving to escape the sounds of the terrestrial world.
Interesting idea for training purposes, but I imagine that a full-mask with radio comm is superior. |
ehhee. imagine swimming to the theme of "JAWS" hehe

Actually, I just experienced the best underwater "stereo" I've ever heard. We dove Maui during Humpback season, and every dive was accompanied by whale song. Way cool...

i've used lots of underwater com units and speakers. but i love the serenity of just hearing bubbles. i would never wear anything surfing except my drawers... if you get into the washing machine, sometimes even those don't stay on. :D |
iPod + Ziplok bag = ScubaTunes!
