Burning dual layer DVD's with NEC 2500A
There is a new firmware upgrade that allows the NEC 2500A to burn dual layer DVD’s. I was wondering if this would be worth getting. I currently have an optorite that just plain sucks and for $80 at Newegg this drive seems like a great value. I was wondering if there are any repercussions that would occur from flashing this drive.
Here are some links for more information. Link #1 Link #2 Link #3 |

well it appears like it works... on one of those links... i think it was the third there was a quote from NEC about it... saying that yes it was possible... but the optical pickup unit wasnt designed to handle that so it could generate errors with it...
if i had the drive now i would definently wait a while till more people have tried and tested it more extensively... and if it turns out to work great... well i just might have to pick up on of those drives myself

I have the NEC 2500a, and I have used Herrie's firmwares. The newest one is the best so far, it will burn those 4x media at 8x. The Dual Layer feature is really cool, and probably will be included in Herrie's firmware once the dual layer media is more available.. Not many people have it now. Cheap solution for DL!

I read about this a while back. I hear it works very well. Almost makes me spend the money to get an NEC DVD burner. Not quite though
