Looking for a TV tuner card

I'm looking for a TV tuner card, mainly for the purpose of recording shows and saving them to my hard drive. I already have a video card so i don't really want a combo card. I'd like one thats under $100. Any suggestions?

They're all pretty interchangeable.

I'm quite happy with my Hauppage bt848.

Hauppauge seems to be the standard. I bought a cheap one that I threw in my MythTV box.

Assuming you are using it for windows, they should all be pretty interechangeable. You may want to check the resolution that they will record at, though.

it has different capture settings

if you wanna put it on media
720x480 for dvd quality, 480x480 for superVCD, 352x240 for VCD

just for your hard drive
640x480 for Mpeg-2, 320x240 for Mpeg-1

you can even record in divx, mpeg-4 but you would have to get the codec first. and i dont have em so i dont know what resolution they would be at

o and another thing, this card even has a remote and radio tuner

I have the Winfast 2000 also. It has been a great card. It has more features than I will ever use. I paid about 50 bucks for and it has been worth every penny. Oh beware, download the drivers off their website. They released some updated versions which fix errors that are on the CD. And if you have Norton Antivirus 2003 disable Instant Messenge Scanning. For some reason Norton thinks the sound is a virus and turns off the sound. I don't know if future versions fixed this problem.

I have the cheapo ATI card, and it works great!
I paid less than $40 for it at Wal-Mart.
I hooked it up to a wireless video sender (running to one of the satellite receivers), and my wife loves to watch TV while surfing the net.
I don't know why you'd spend more, unless you want to go to an HDTV tuner.

One really neat thing about the ATI cards is this option called "Thruview Desktop". You can make the video semi-transparent where you can see it in the background of any other windows (like your web browser, for instance). I use this all the time.

ATI's PVR software is really nice too, although be aware that if you have digital cable you won't be able to watch one channel while recording another (at least I've never been able to do it).
