Online Games Bandwith Usage
Greetings Everyone,
I rent a room in a house and the house is setup wirelessly (cable). I play a lot of games online (UT 2004, CS, etc.) and I never considered how much bandwith I might be sucking up by playing all these games. Am I being an asshole? I am sucking up all the bandwith, can they even tell if I am playing these games? Just wondering. Thanks

I really am not the expert on this and I expect others to have a much more detailed and helpful post to follow mine. But, it is my guess that you playing the games would be much more likely to notice your other roommates use of bandwidth more than they would notice your use. If they were to use a lot of the bandwidth (i.e. download a mega post on the T.B.) your game would show obvious performance issues where as their downloads would just take a bit longer if you were playing a game. I believe most games don't take much more than 20K or so, but that is just a rough guess.

well, if you look a it, you can play online games using dial up.
the average bandwidth usage will be between 5k-20kbps usually.. homestly, not that noticeable

IF you ever want real figures, install somthing such as "Net Limiter" and play for a few minutes, close out the game, and check the program showing the last few min of bw history.
Or just take our words and beleive, games take very little bandwidth UNLESS you are hosting.
