Broadband modem emulator?
 

Okay I really hate my 56k plus I have to dial long distance, but I have to use it to login to some bbs es. Anyone ever heard of an emulator that would allow one to use a cable/dsl hookup like a modem. Prob just wishful thinking.

Btw, thanks for everyones help on turning up my modem noise, now I can hear the damn thing when I have to use it.

The problem is a lot of bbs es receive on modem only. The IRS FIRE system works like this. The only way to connect to is is via another modem.

It's a security issue. They want direct connection so they don't have to worry as much about people packet scanning and snagging sensative data off the wire.

there are such emulators, but they have to be implemented on the BBS side. It's a TCP bridge that tricks the BBS into thinking that the incoming TCP connection is in fact a dialup session.
