Hub/DSL Router setup

I have an Etherfast DSL Router Hub, and I've been trying to get it to work as both a hub and a DSL router. I've been having a lot of problems with it. Stuff that according to the manual should work, doesn't. When I'm hooked into the router, I can't get to its setup. It's supposed to just be 192.168.1.1, but when I try to access it I'm told I can't get to it while offline.

Can anyone help me with this? I've been hosting LAN parties and it's a drag to have to disconnect from the hub to get online.

set your computer's IP address to 192.168.1.100 if it's set to anything but something other than 192.168.1.x.

you should then be able to connect.

Is it windows telling you that you can't get to it offline? Like when you "work offline" with IE, or is it a message from the router?

Can you ping the router's ip address? If not maybe you need to try and reset the router to the factory defaults and try again?

Also Scorpion23 is correct that you may need to tell internet explorer that you aren't working offline.

And just for fun try 192.168.2.1 - - you could have a misprint in the manual. .2.1 is also a very common router IP

and so is 192.168.0.1

you could also try to telnet the router.... go to a command screen and type "telnet 192.168.1.1" and see if the router responds.

I know the router's IP is 192.168.1.1, it's the default and I haven't changed it.

I tried this, but I was still unable to connect.

It's from working offline, it's not a message from the router.

When I first got DSL, I had it set up like I want it now, but I changed to directly connecting to the modem because BitTorrent wasn't behaving. Now after looking through the manual I see it's an easy problem to fix, but I can't get it to work any more.

are you connected through the WAN port? and it thinks youy are on the out side?

probubly not but just check.

next do you have an ip? are you using DNS or are you setting it your self.

what OS are you running?

The DSL line goes through the WAN port. I've set IP auto and manually, still getting the working offline problem, and I don't know what DNS servers to connect to. XP

OK, I got my computer to at least connect to the hub/router again. However, I could not connect to the dsl router through the hub. However, I can't do that now either, even though I'm connected directly to the dsl router. So I'm going to have a talk with Earthlink.

are you running DHCP?

have you tried to release/renew the ip?
