A couple of questions
As always, apologies if I'm repeating.
First case: A friend of mine recently got a laptop with XP Home and a CD-R drive. Hating Home, I reformatted and put 2000 on it, but the problem is he doesn't have any cd burning software, because it's built into XP. Can anyone suggest a simple free program for data burning? He can use WMP for music burning if needed. Second: I've got a client who can't view .tif files from the web. (Win2k, IE) If he downloads the file to his desktop he can open them without incident, but IE tries to open the file in Windows Imaging and pops "Cannot find the file." How can I reassociate the file type with regard to IE to something else? I imagine it's going to be a reg hack, but I'll cope with that.

Well, I can't help you with the first one. I don't know of any good programs that are free. But the second one is pretty easy.
Open any folder and go to the "Tools" menu. Select "Folder Options" and click on the "File Types" tab. Scroll down until you see Tif. Then click on "Change" and you can modify what program opens the file. edit: I forgot that you'll have to click on the Advanced tab to configure the settings for separate programs. Select IE and look under the options for the program.

Holo: Thanks for the CD burning utility. I'll try it out.
As for the image view, a third party app is not going to be possible in this case; it's a school district and I won't be able to get clearance from the IT department, nor would I want to install that software on every single client machine and associate the file type. Scorpion: I'm not quite clear. I understand about assigning programs to file types with regard to windows, but for some arsed reason, IE is different. When I click on the advanced tab under tif I get four options: open, preview, print, printto. IE is not one of them. Maybe I'm not understanding you.
