Alcohol 120%

Has anyone else been using this product yet?

I just downloaded the trial edition of Alcohol 120% and am trying to make an image of a disc.

As the image is being created there is an error being reported every couple of seconds. The disc works fine so I don't think it's my original media.

Maybe this is normal with Alcohol, anyone have any experience here?

I think that the disc that you're trying to copy is protected (or just has) 'read errors.' Not all program discs have them, and you can still rip it, but it will take forever.

For that disc, I reccomend this far less glamorous route.

1) Create a temp folder somewhere (desktop is fine)
2) Drag and drop all files from the CD (all files, make sure that you can see hidden files)
3) Use MagicISO to transform the files into an ISO image
4) Test the ISO by virtually mounting it in Alcohol or any other software that supports virtual drives

This isn't the recommended method, but it works. I've ripped a few discs this way, and no problems so far. Sorry that I don't have the link for the MagicISO site. And you'll probably want to register MagicISO otherwise file size is limited. Hopefully you've got sources for that kind of thing.

Oh boy! Alcohol 120% is the best program ever! Anyways, yea, I haven't found any surefire way besides Slavakion's route, except I use fireburner and it works good.

Alcohol 120% would be 120% better if it would let you burn an ISO but rename the disk to something other than the default name included within the ISO. I can't tell you how many headaches this lack of feature has caused me...

You guys still burn disks anyway??? I just add hard drives...

Hey I got it to work, sorta. I was able to make my ISO with Nero Express (my normal burning software) and then mount that ISO to a virtual drive with Alcohol 120%, thus accomplishing my goal.

Thanks Slav, I guess I owe you a coke.

I installed this and it tetra-fucked my computer. I had to format it fucked it up so bad. It tried to install a virtual CD-ROM drive on my computer, and when I tried to disable it, it wouldn't go away. Then all of my .ISOs wouldn't work after that. I don't use it.

I've used it for several years. Saves me a ton of CD-Rs with the virtual drives feature. I love it.

Alcohol isn't really necessary. I use Daemon Tools and burnatonce (both free) and all my needs are covered.

Damn. That sucks. I have no problems with it.
I have 8 virtual drives on my PC right now. I love the program.

Alcohol is free too , kinda. And you must have just had a bad experience with Alcohol, because it works great for me.

I havn't seen much that Alchohol can do that Daemon can't--for my purposes--since I don't use Alchohol to burn anything.. and Daemon's emulation is just quicker, IMHO.
