that's typically not a good idea. car speakers are designed to perform in an "infinite baffle" situation (a very large enclosure (trunk, door, etc) as compared to the driver. decent stand-alone home audio drivers are not expensive and can give very good results with a well-designed enclosure and crossover. check out www.partsexpress.com and www.madisound.com if you're actually interested in DIY audio.

You need to go an invest in a set of Definitive Technology speakers. These speakers are powered bipolor loudspeakers. They offer a huge soundfield with very little distoration. Check em out!

I would agree with the suggestion of Definitive speakers. I love mine. If you just want sound, then by all means stuff your drivers in some plywood boxes and go to town. If you want good sound, leave it to the experts. You can get into an entry level set of Definitive surrounds for $350 and towers for $599.

Deft tech's are real nice. As are Klipsch, and Energy. All have a slightly different sound, head to a store and try them all out.
The easiest thing to build yourself is a sub. There are some fantastic kits out there. There are also speakers that you can build, but they do not use car drivers. If you want to try diy speakers, check out these kits: http://www.gr-research.com/ |

Energy's are nice speakers. Thought they were a little rich on the high end. DEF would not a powered sub to match
