Cell phone froze

A friend of mine has an LG VX6000. He was uploading a ringtone from his computer through a link cable, and got a call. He unplugged the cable while it was still uploading, and took the call. He noticed afterwards that his ringers were skipping, and turned the phone off then back on. Now, it's frozen on the Verizon splash screen. It can only be turned off by popping the battery, and while off, if the power button is pressed briefly, but no tlong enough to power it on, a ghosted image of the splash screen appears without the backlight. It will turn on, but freeze at the splash screen.

I tried shorting out the battery contacts to drain any capacitors, but nothing happened and the problem remains the same. Is there any way to save the phone?

sounds pretty messed up to me. maybe it's under warranty?

There should be a way to make the phone do a hard reset. Try searching the net for any key combinations that could do it. Tech support could also tell you.

Verizon's techs were befuddled. He's paying the deductible and getting a new one shipped overnight.

I'm checking it out now, but if on the LGVX6000 you goto menu and hit 0 (phone menu says 1-9, but hit 0 anyways) and enter the code 000000 when prompted, it brings up like a debug menu of the phone. I don't see shit about the 'hard reset' but it should be in there somewhere, check it out.

This is probably a problem with the boot loader or just a corruption of the firmware code space somehow. Is there a way to reprogram or update firmware?

He got a new phone anyway. Can't get to the menu because it's frozen. I think he shipped the old one back anyway.

Usually if the phone just froze and it's less than a year old it should be covered by the warranty and a replacement phone should have been offered. Depending on if the store has a tech or not, the phone's firmware can be updated at no charge and it may fix the problem.

My phone (Samsung) froze after my baby daughter was chewing on it. After scratching my head for a while I removed the battery to restart it and found that the insides of the phone were saturated in baby drool. After scanning the warranty with a magnifying glass, I found that dribble damage was not covered, so I dried out the phone with very careful care and consideration. It works now (sort of), but don't ask me to dial any number that contains an 8.

Kids..............

Just so you all know, the genius has managed to trash two more phones since the original post.
