DVD Region Codes
I have a UK Region DVD Player (region 2 I think?)
I really really really want to get this DVD when it comes out. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...s=dvd&n=507846 (TV Show, Dead Like Me) But it says it will probably only work on Region 0 players So my question is, how to they "define" probably? Are they just saying it to cover their asses cos their is a slim chance it might not work on some machines, or does probably really mean it probably wont worK?

It WILL NOT work unless your DVD player is hacked, can can convert NTSC video to PAL video. Such machines are not too hard to find in the UK. Look for a 'region free' DVD player.
for more about region codes, read: http://www.dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html#1.10

because of this very reason I bought a Regionless DVD player. I know that they sell them in the UK, they cost a bit more but I have Spooks and several other Region 2 discs and look forward to adding more regions to our collection.

It's not to hard to find a DVD player that is regionless, many companies are manufacturing them now. The main problem, as yotta pointed out, is that Region 1 is NTSC while pretty much the rest of the world is PAL. As long as you get one that can convert NTSC to PAL you'll be fine.
This is just one of the many reasons that I built a standalone HTPC with a 9800 Pro AIW. I can play any DVD, VCD, SVCD or video file on my TV with no problem at all.
