Temperature's
Greetings Everyone,
How hot should my harddrives get? I am reading 42C (two Maxtor 160GB) from PC Wizard 2004. That seems rather hot doesn't it? Could that be normal? Can someone tell me what the average or normal internal tempatures should be? Thanks. Much appreciated. |
i dont know too much about tempratures, but my case has 24C at average, and no problems ;) hehe
try getting a 120mm fan to cool down those harddrives |
I'm not sure about hard drives, but I have one AMD processor that runs around 32c and another that runs as hot as 65c !!! The hot one only has three fans (cpu, ps, and case). The cooler one has six fans (2 ps, 2 case, cpu, and video).

did you just copy a bunch of files, or run programs from those hard drive(s)? that seems a bit hot, but not "insanely" hot. I wouldn't worry about it. besides, I have three of those Maxtor 160s, and I can definitely back you up on them getting hot. VERY hot. :)
edit: yeah, like the above person said, definitely get some fans in there. I have: 160 160 160 120 80 hard drives. 5 total. I put four 80 MM fans in front of them (attached to the front of my case) and if I need something that is hard drive intensive, I crank the fans up to full blast. |
I was averaging 32C on my 80gb Maxtor, and with one 80mm fan thats dropped to about 26C. Its worth the 8 bucks for the fan and making a little funnel out of thin plexi like i did.

my drives run cool, but i have 2 80 mm right in front of them.
4x120 gig, and one 80 that died last night *sniffle* |
