Help Required! folders/explorer crashing
Now.. this only happens with a few files, but when I right click, or try deleting something with "del" the foler that file is in crashes and nothing happens to the file. The files it happens to are pretty random, and it acutally only seems to happen to files inside of my main file "stuff" which is just where I keep all my stuff, apps, games, movies, ect
Has anyone ever seen anything like this before and would you have any idea how to fix it? help would greatly be appreciated. I've tried google and other searching for something but nothing that helped. Any info would be awsome.. thanks!

There are so many things that could be possible.
What operating system do you use? Do you have an anti-virus with up to date definitions? First off, I would try doing a repair install if you are using WinXP or another version that has that on the CD (ME?). If you dont have an antivirus, that would be the next thing I would do. Find a temporary free or trial version virus scanner and see if that finds anything.

I am currently running WinXP pro. And I have yet been able to do a full virus scan, I recently had to remove the netlink32.exe virus (not sure if you've heard of it) but in addition to using up tons of resources and being annoying, it changes all of the ip's in the liveupdate's host file so it cannot run it. I ended up having to remove liveupdate, and I cant find my norton cd atm so I couldn't re-install it. I thought of running the repair on the winxp cd, but unfortunately its with my norton cd =/... what is a good free virus scanner you would recommend? preferably something that wouldn't make me uninstall systemwork.

you can try out a free online virus scanner here http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
for a free antivirus, a lot of people like avg antivirus http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php other things to do is run a spyware/adware scan. Once you have all of that checked out, then you might want to run a chkdisk(scandisk) to check for file corruption. Since you have systemworks you can do this through disk doctor ad if there are any errors it will probably have you reboot for it to run (not sure, the 2002 version i use does this for win 2k). |
