For all Network Admins

Looking for a tool where ...

1) i can monitor diffrent parts of an network (Servers / Clients / Switches

2) smnp traps / icmp should be both there

3) showing these infos in a way where i can see when a problem in the network happens, or a server is not there anymore

i know there are many products out there but please let me know what you guys prefer .. better than testing all stuff myself

(network is ms based with alot of cisco and hirschmann hardware)

Are you looking for something free or public domain, or do you want to purchase something?

The whole area of network/host management is pretty huge, so a bit more information on your constraints would be useful.

Are you talking about monitoring a single network (LAN or MAN), or do you want to monitor WAN links and hosts at remote sites?

How many hosts do you need to monitor?

Do you want to simply monitor your network devices or would you like to manage them also?

Do you have an existing network management framework in place?

lots more questions...

10 server with around 300 clients hosted in a fibre optic hirschmann ring, where ciscos take over to the clients

i would like to know when a switch goes down, and if yes with a full protokoll on why and have "live" picture of the network at any given time .. where i am not interested in the clients formost, i would need to know status of switches and the servers

at best some grafical overview to see where the problem is coming from
