They probably left behind some registry keys and other files somewhere. Its pretty common, even with trustworthy software. Spyware authors are tricky bastards, and doing a normal uninstall on them rarely works.
Will adaware not get rid of them?

Try this prog Add and Remove Plus
More of a complete add/remove prog that scans yer registry, cleans up the start menu, and deletes the folder as well.
