System32 Help
http://img1.photobucket.com/albums/0.../untitled1.bmp
does anyone know how to get rid of this? -thanks- |
Sounds like kwbot.worm.
This VB Script will the common Registry entries and files created by the KWBot.Worm. This worm causes an error message that "CMD32.EXE" cannot be found on startup. The error message may also be that "system32.exe" cannot be found. Read how to get rid of it here. Next time, it's important you tell us what version of windows you are running. |
oh sorry, it was Windows XP Home Edition..
i tried what they said, but i couldn't find those values in the registry. =/ |
I don't have a winxp system in front of me at the moment, but you can try msconfig and seeing if there are any entries in your startup that are trying to run this (if there are, remove them).
If you don't have msconfig (or don't like to use it) I have found this alternative that will also allow you to view what is in your startup settings http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml also don't forget to try a free online virus scan just to make sure your system is clean http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ hope that helps you some. |
like heyal256 said, try housecall. It's always up to date and can hopefully find whats going on.
Sorry I couldn't help, I hope you get to the bottom of it! |
go into the 'Run' menu in the start button, type in msconfig and hit enter
your startup editor should show up, and the last tab "startup" is what you need find "system32.exe" under the startup, and uncheck it. reboot, and when you reboot, it will give you some message about youve used system config or somesuch, just click the dont tell me again button/option. this will work for any process, if you know its a virus. i wouldnt recommend playing around under the other tabs though |
tried all those. no luck. =( thanks for trying though..
|
do you get this error on startup? or anytime else? anything NOT work as a result of it? any changes (like software installs or windows updates) lately?
if anything, you could always try to do a reinstall in place.... |
i get this error everytime on startup..everything seems to be working fine, but it's just annoying. =/
