nvidia vs ati
Get this shit....
I have an Asus A7N8X-E m/b with the nvidia ultra 400 chipset. I also have an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro running on WinXP Pro. I just put all this stuff together 2 days ago (i.e. new mb, processor and RAM) and have been fighting with it until yesterday. Anyhow, when I installed the mb drivers (on the CD), it installed a VIDEO DRIVER TOO! WTF?! It didn't say it did until I removed the drivers.... So I had to reinstall each driver seperately with the device manager. My real ? is smartgart didn't get installed thru the mb drivers. I know that it isn't THAT important, but if it can be installed i'd like to do it. Secondly, the mb came with a really nice multimedia prog from nvidia that didn't get installed when I installed the sound drivers. Again, that prog is not a really big deal, it was just nice (had a built in eq and stuff) Any info is appreciated |

To install the other applications, put in your cd--->if a window pops-up, close it.--->open my computer-->then right click on the cd icon,---> click on explore--->look for the program that you want to install, should end w/ exe extension. double click on the installer.
As for smartgart look for newer drivers from mobo manufacturer. |

I'm completely confused now, what's going on.
I just want to get this straight, you have a Motherboard w/ onboard nvidia video card. But you're not using the nvidia card, you're using an ATI Card? If so follow the directions below: Ok uninstall the ATI driver, reinstall the Nvidia drivers that came with the mobo. Reason why smartgart is not getting installed is that there is traces of the old nvidia driver. Now get nvidia detonator: Nvidia Detonator 4 XP WinXP/2000 Drivers @ http://www.voodoofiles.com/4673 run this program to fully remove the nvidia driver. Now when Xp starts nagging you that it found new hardware close that window, and pop in your cd that includes your ATI drivers and choose full installation. Better yet, d/l and install the newest catalyst drivers, I think it's 4.4. You should now have smartgart, since it comes installed with the ATI driver. Right click on the desktop--->select properties--->click on the Settings tab--->Click the Advanced button--->Select Smartgart tab--->you should see a slider that allows you to adjust it to either 4x or 8x. Let me know if this solves your problem. |

A7N8X-E motherboard.... That's the one with built-in graphics card, isn't it?
Could you have prevented the nVidia graphics driver from installing? When you first setup the PC you could have plugged in the ATI card & disabled the built-in graphics card from bios BEFORE installing Windows. I think the way to go now is to follow zero2's instructions (above). |

No, no built in graphics on this board. The all in 1 driver that is provided with the mb included a video driver. If you ask me, its a lousy way to push nvidia products.
I already did that too, I used a prog called driver cleaner instead. It cleans all old video drivers. I am still going to try it again though, thanks zero2

Nope, no workie. The gart driver is on the mb cd, there isnt one on the website (they are all in 1 drivers). When I installed the vid card driver it wasn't on that either
Oh well, I guess it isnt a necessity.
