you know you're a geek when...
When you get warm and fuzzy inside after you order a new part for your pc :P
I just ordered a set of OCZ 2x256 DDR PC3200 memory. Link to the product I recently swapped out my (dead) ECS K7S5A motherboard for a Soltek 75FRN2-L one, and went from an XP 1900+ to a 2500 barton. The problem was that I had a half gig stick of pc2100 ram in there, which was underclocking the proc. I'm spending more on this PC at once than I had hoped to, but at least now I can play with a bit of overclocking, which just about all my previous hardware didn't allow me to do. Just thought I'd put this one out there, because I thought it was kinda funny that I actually felt excited that I'd ordered the ram and it's coming in 1-2 days from monday btw, I paid $180 ($207 after taxes and shipping) for it. From what I saw from looking around, it was a pretty fair price. |

Bah. Glad you got away from that ECS mobo. I had that exact same mobo and it was the biggest piece of utter shite...

bacon_masta: the "annoying child on christmas morning" effect? :P
sailor, I bought it last year just for the price, because I was in need and simply couldn't afford anything more than it. However, while hearing constant complaints by users, I really didn't have any problems with it. It definitely was not a high end board, but I wasn't expecting one. For what it cost me (about 50-60 bucks if I can remember correctly), it did its job. Although I'm not too sad that it's gone and MooseMan3000, yeah it's Canadian dollars. I guess I should have mentioned that. I've been in hardware tinkering mode for a few days now. Not good for the wallet, but it's something I've wanted to do for a long time now. I've never really built a PC that I've been very happy with. My computers always seem to be built during economic turmoil :P After a few more parts, I'll essentially have replaced everything. Now just for a case that isn't a POS... I'll keep you guys posted |

Yep, I was super excited when I got my first batch of computer parts in. New mobo, processor, hdd, ram. Ah, it feels like it was just yesterday when I was scoring 13000 on 3dmark2001.
