problem with windows explorer/media player - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

my windows explorer has been messing up a lot lately, and ive noticed that i can never get .wmv and such to work when someone sends me one. it's like windows media player pops up to play it then it gets an error and says that the error occurs here..
C:\DOCUME~1\Trey\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER21.tmp.dir00\appcompat.txt

sometimes an error will just happen when i'm browsing through a folder with media files..

i have a Dell Dimension 8100 and i'm running windows xp professional

on another forum, someone suggested to open the txt file in notepad, as it might give you some clues as to what's going on. i google'd the text file name and it returns all sorts of compatability errors for all kinds of programs....
