Weird Problem on XP

My comp has been working perfectly up until this weekend..

I tried to open a program and got a weird error (no big deal, since I barely use it)

But now, when I want to open a major program(i.e. dreamweaver or photoshop) weird things happen. I double click dream-weaver and it appears to be opening (can hear computer "working").. but it doesnt open..I double click it again and It opens right up.

Photoshop problems: it opens fine but then i go to file>open and nothing happens. Have to close it and open it about 2 more times before anything else happens.

I can't even open notepad without clicking on it like 5000 times along with the clock help!

Take this with a grain of salt: Does your computer suck?

Do you recall what that error message was?

Maybe you have a virus? Do a virus scan just to be sure.

Try this one: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

error message said there was not enough memory..which is a total lie. Nothing else was open!

try looking at the processes through the task manager (ctrl-shift-esc), and see what's running when you start your programs.

did you adjust anything lately? are you by any chance running out of hard drive space?

Well, there's your problem right there!

Do you reboot the machine regularly, or do you use the 'Hibernate' option?

I would suggest a 'scandisk','defrag','adaware','spybot' and make sure that your virtual memory is at least 512 megs.

I use hibernate regularly.. I will do scandisk/defrage/adaware/spybot tonight

Thanks for all the help!

Hibernating your laptop on a regular basis can lead to many different kinds of errors. You're better off to restart teh notebook at least once a day to keep problems from happening in the future. Oh, and if you have not done so, make sure that you have all of your windows-update patches.

Hope it helps!

Agree with saltfish. Hybernate = pointless feature (IMO)
