Networking Macintosh and PCs. - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

I have a question for you networking guys/gals out there.
My gf asked me :

"If i am able to hook up 10 PC clones and 7 macintoshes with novella ethernet, what am i going to have to change for the people on the networks to be able to communicate with each other, share documents, instant messaging, remote printers etc. Am i going to have to change the network icons?"

Since I am pretty computer illiterate I said "UMMMMMMM.....I dunno, let me see what the people at TFP have to say".

I didn't even think it would be an issue..but like I said...I don't know much about computers let alone networks.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

p.s. I think this is a small part of a paper she has been working on.

She wants to know if she needs to change the icons?

We have 16 pc's at home and one mac, all netowrked perfectly. We don't even bother with icons..just cmd line. ie: smb://wendy/docs on the mac or //wendy/docs on any of the PC's. Maybe I'm not clear on exactly what she is asking?

I'm not really quite sure what she asking now.
I think she wants to know if she just needs to network them with Novell Ethernet and thats it? Or is their special configurations she has to take care of or additional software/hardware that may be needed to make the macs and pcs compatible on a shared network?

she needs to hava samba enabled. Her mac should pretty much walk her through it, they have tons of help files on the subject. Maybe until you figure out exactly what she needs, direct her there.
