Photoshop Elements vs Paint Shop Pro

I was wondering if there are many digital photo editors (ie, people) out there?

I'm trying to decide which photo editing application to use.

The two options I have are Photoshop Elements II by Adobe and Paint Shop Pro 8 by Jasc.

Any recommendations?

not to be a smartass, but why not use both? unless you are paying for them. ohh ok I got it. sorry.

ok, honestly, it just depends on what you're doing. If you are seriously fucking with photos (fixing tears, cracks, redeye, blur, contrast, photo manipulation, etc.) I would DEFINITELY go with Photoshop. Definitely.

Yes, but I can't afford to spend $800, so Photoshop is out. And I don't use pirated software. Same way as I don't shoplift...

I guess I like Photoshop Elements, but I've seen some very good reviews for PaintShop Pro recently.

Photoshop Elements is Photoshop with all of the image creation stuff ripped out. It still has all of the photo manipulation stuff in it though. What this means is that you wont be able to make those crazy pure photoshop images you see all over the net, but it will do you just fine for photo editing. I know a couple professional photographers that use it.

I dont have any experience with PSP, so I cant comment on that. Were it me, I would go with PS Elements, but that is just because I am familiar with PS and know how to use it If PSP is the more powerful piece of software, you may want to go that route. It would probably be wise to see if you can find someone with one or both of them so that you can tool around and see which one you like better.
